Quantum Computers on the Way to Becoming Reality
| |It was bound to happen and now it has. Scientists are working on a quantum computer, taking it through various programs to see how far they can push its capabilities. Built by IBM, the machine has a very small (about centimeter) and quite precise chip that is kept chilled to just barely over absolute zero.
You might think that a computer with such a small chip would have a small casing to go with it. It doesn’t. The outside of the computer is quite large and reminiscent of the big, clunky machines from the mid 20th century.
The team working on the computer hope to scale up its abilities and if successful, it will be able to solve puzzles that have not been possible on any computer up to now. That is at least the theory because the behavior of quantum entities is not like anything that exists in the rest of reality.
