The Largest Ape Species Died Off 100,000 Years Much Earlier

Gigantopithecus blacki is the largest ape that has ever known to have existed. They are like super-sized versions of the modern-day orangutan. Scientists believe that it failed to adapt to the drastic environmental changes. The ape died between 295,000 and 215,000 years ago. Fossils from about a dozen caves in southern China where the giant ape lived.
