Mussel Wastes Fuels Carp Population toward Lake Michigan
| |Lake Michigan is one of the largest lakes in America and may become a spawning paradise for carp fish.
Asian carp species, bighead (Hypophthalmichthys nobilis) and silver carp (H. molitrix) are voracious feeders that may thrive on the waste of mussel populations found in the depths of Lake Michigan.
Sandra Cook, an ecologist at Highpoint University in North Carolina believes that humans should do everything within our power to keep the invasive fish away from the great lake.
However, other experts believe that the complex ecology of a lake system will prove difficult to manage in deterring the dreaded carp invasion.
