Milky Way Sibling Found
| |The galaxy closest to ours is the Andromeda galaxy. Scientists have come to the conclusion that 2 billion years ago, our galactic neighbor shredded and ate another massive galaxy. The Department of Astronomy at the University of Michigan discovered, using a computer model, that M32p, a sibling to our Milky Way, was shredded by Andromeda. This “sibling galaxy” was even larger than our own Milky Way!
This information will help us in understanding how galaxies evolve.
