Hibernating Bumblebee Queens Can Survive Underwater for Days

Bombus impatiens or the common eastern bumblebee queens are resilient to flooding events when they hibernate in their chambers underground. These dedicated queen bees stay underground, despite floods, to start a new colony in the spring. They hibernate alone in the soil, where they can stay submerged in water for about a week.
